Why choose our concealed carry class?
Don has been an engaging and nationally known trainer in industry for the last 30 years. His specialty is bringing highly technical subjects to life. We also provide a professional meeting room environment with modern audio/video, snacks and a private range all at no additional charge.
While many concealed carry trainers promote their military, police or shooting sports credentials, the discipline of citizens carrying concealed involves a distinctly civilian perspective and set of skills. Don provides that perspective.
Many Illinois concealed carry courses require you to come equipped with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff (pistol, holster, belt, cover garment etc.) before you even know what you may need. We don't do that. If you already own such gear that's OK. But if you don't, we'll help you decide what you will need to buy after you've completed the class.
Many new shooters are made apprehensive at shooting ranges. While you will be strictly instructed in safety and defensive shooting techniques, we won't intimidate you with barked militaristic commands. Our range officers are masters at helping you to feel comfortable, confident and safe.
Call Don to find out how easy it is to get your Illinois CCL training for as low as $150. Enjoy the quiet friendly atmosphere of our country facilities and save money too.

What if I've never shot before?
No problem. See above. We can even arrange additional one-on-one help with our certified NRA instructors as necessary.
Do I need to bring a firearm, holster, gun belt?
No. Few Illinois residents have experience with carrying a holstered firearm. Our new shooters do not need the immediate expense of buying firearms and holsters before coming to class. We will guide you through many of the options and help you decide what might be best for you. With this background you’ll know better what to buy. We have pistols you can use to qualify for the CCL. Remember, you DO need a FOID card to apply for your Illinois CCL but if your FOID has not arrived yet, that's OK. You do not need a FOID card to attend this training. You can even qualify with our firearm, under our supervision, on our private range!
Will I be able to carry in other states?
According to https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/travel/ an Illinois CCL is accepted in 18 other states, AK, AZ ID, UT, SD, IA, KS, MO, OK, IN, KY, TN, MI, MS, AL, NC, and VT and WISCONSIN! Wisconsin is a recent addition to this fluid situation but, right now, this is how it stands. Adding a Utah non-resident allows you to carry in a total of 42 states.
Why don't you offer 8 or 12 hour classes?
Since even experienced shooters gain deeper understanding of armed civilian defense in our training, and to be assured that the demanding standards of Illinois concealed carry have been met by all of our students, we do not offer a shortened course.
Can I pay on-line?
No, pay by check or cash, no problem. Call or e-mail Don. Registrations require payment for them to be solidly assured.
What is the class size?
Lecture on Saturday through noon Sunday will have no more than 12 students per instructor. At our private range we'll have no more than four shooters on the firing line for each Range Safety Officer (RSO). New shooters will be provided individual instruction as needed.
Where is the class?
Classes are held at our farm about 5 miles south of Kirkland, IL.
Is there any special equipment I need?
Yes. You'll need to bring your own eye and ear protection (eyes & ears), nothing fancy, Farm & Fleet will do just fine. And dress for the weather on Sunday afternoon at the range.
What about bad weather?
Concealed carry classroom sessions all day Saturday through Sunday noon will be held inside. Gun handling work early Sunday afternoon can be done inside at the range location. Actual range qualifications may have to be rescheduled if the weather turns really nasty late Sunday afternoon.
After the class, how long does it take to get my CCL?
The state has assured us that your applications with digital fingerprints (available on-site) will receive permits within 90 days, those without may take 120 days.
What if I have to cancel?
Call Don.
Can I carry right after class?
No. There are no CCL courses which do that. All candidates have to first earn the Illinois State Police Concealed Carry Firearm Training Certificate which this course provides. Then each candidate has to apply on-line with the Illinois State Police, pay $150 and wait until you are approved (90-120 days).
Can I come out to practice after class?
Yes. Our concealed carry students may come out to our private range for additional practice, by appointment only please. We are not a public range. Please understand that sister Sue and uncle Vinney are not part of this deal. CCL students only please.
